Tinder has been bringing a bit of buzz into the singles dating scene. Since downloading it on Saturday night, it’s been an interesting experience.
So this smart phone app is great for meeting other single people as long as you have a Facebook profile, which most of us have now-a-days.
When you sign in with your Facebook, you’re offering up your profile pictures, age, first name, small paragraph about you, friends in common and also any interests such as movies, books, music etc…
All the basic need-to-know information. So this app can be quite superficial in a sense where you’re being judged on your profile photos. However, you can tap into the profile and look to see if you have any other interests in common.
So you swipe left to say ‘nope’ not interested or swipe right to say ‘yes’ you’re hot. If both parties approved the photo, a connection is established and you’re then able to IM (instant message) each other and chat.
It works well, because many of us do judge based on looks and going for someone you are attracted to is always important in making the first connection. It’s not difficult to soon figure out what some of the guys are using Tinder for.
It’s a pretty safe application because only limited personal information is given. You have to be wary that some people will have created fake Facebook accounts just to prey on single people. (more likely men preying on women, but I wont discriminate.)
So there’s just a few common sense things to do if you do find yourself getting a long with a person, such as meeting in a public area for the first meet-up just so you can get to know this person better in person and they do look like their profile picture. LOL
I had a funny conversation with a guy this morning who was clearly just on Tinder to pick up girls for sex. He had picked up on the fact that I keep a blog.
I find that it is really easy to shut people down and also you can always block people if they start making your feel uncomfortable.
This morning NovaFM posted a funny link about ‘how not to pick up on Tinder’
It’s definitely catching on quick. Maybe i’ll catch you on Tinder soon
Stay safe and have fun!
